Late Hari Raya Wish

Is it too late to wish you all Selamat Hari Raya? Tapi raya seminggu kan? So here i wish you all Selamat Hari Raya dan mintak maaf jika ada salah & silap sepanjang coretan i di blog yang entah pape ni. How was your raya? Still enjoying your holidays? I dah keja, 2 orang je staf malay yang keja kat ofis ni, yang lain semua still cuti till Monday. Lunch pun solo je tadi. Maklumla cuti dah kurang, banyak sangat kenduri kawin family terdekat tahun ni.

My raya was full of food fest! From the last 2 days fasting till the third day raya makan je kejanya. Dapat family yang semuanya kaki makan. Jangan tanya la berat naik ke tak, sensitif question! I didn't snap much picture of the food. Ramai sangat orang serbu makanan bila dah hidang, so memang tak teringat nak snap gambar because kalau i tak serbu sekali memang habis la makanan semua tu. Here are some food that i managed to steal from my cousins.

Roti jala & kuah masak manis. This kuah has sweet sour taste and has a similar ingredients with rendang, yang lain ialah dia berkuah & add air asam jawa for the masam taste. Oh, and we only use chicken wing. Dah jadi tradisi my father's family side to have this kuah with roti jala or ketupat palas. Sedap baq hang! Gambar ketupat palas tu i stole from google image, just to show you how sedap they are..nyam..nyam!

Inspired by A&W coney dog. Made by aunt. Also yummy. We had this during dinner on 1st day raya. There was also fried macaroni, no pic.

Nasi minyak & kambing. This i ate during raya visits at one of the relative house. Got grilled lamb, lamb curry and ayam kicap. Semuanya sedap! Other food we ate during the raya visits is mihun sup daging, memang kaw sup daging dia tu..slurrp!

The best part of my raya feast is this! Kambing golek!! With garden salads & garlic bread..perfecto! I couldn't control myself and had 3 rounds if this. Mind you, before that we already been served with ketupat nasi & sambal udang bilis, megi goreng and nasi goreng cili api. Kambing sampai lambat sangat, makan itu dulu. Kambing sampai makan kambing pulak. Over tak?? Hehehe

On our last night at Alor Star, we went to eat nasi royale. One of the best nasi in town. See the que, it was so long it forms an L shape. Wajib pekena nasi ni every time balik kampung. Got udang besar, itik, limpa dan kuah campuq dia perrghhh..the best! Next time any of you go to Alor Star, search for nasi royale k!

Haa...terliur tak tengok gambar? I pun terliur..hahaha. Ada lagi banyak yang di makan tapi no pics to share. Ok enough or food pictures. Tak best la kalau tak selit gambar raya kan? I end my post with my family raya pics. My raya in Alor Star was a blast, i hope yours too!

My Chinese New Year (2012)

I actually wanted to blog about something else but nevermind, we can talk about my Chinese New Year celebrations first . This year not so best because my grandmother's neighbor was having a funeral. The chinese usually held funeral for 2-3 days. So no bunga api & mercun to burn to respect the dead & grieving family. Also we couldn't lepak at the porch as usual...so we just stayed indoor, TV pun tak bukak sangat. I don't even took much pictures. No picture of me or my family just because we did not wore hijab on any of the pic. Just some pics of my kids. My cousins were late so i did not took their groovy CNY outfit..believe me, they dress to the nine macam nak nyanyi concert! Most of the activity was eating. We ate, we sembang..that were all we did. Enjoy some pictures below.

WOW...angpows! :D

My uncle giving out ang pows. Every year he would wear quirky  headbands. This year was angry bird, last year was devil's horn i think. Yes, he is a funnyman.
2012 is the year of Water Dragon
What we had during CNY's eve family feast. The ikan bawal steam & its chilli paste were so delicious!
Also, on the day of Chinese New Year we went to our other grandmother (malay side) to have afternoon makan-makan. Lots of yummy food were served and we were full to the max. Dah la malam tu ada BBQ at my chinese family's house pulak. Both side also suka makan, any occasion also mesti makan. Malas nak cakap banyak, just refer to pictures below of what we ate on that noon.

Coney dogs. Yes macam A&W punya but lain sket rasanya.
Fruit salads. Nice!
Makaroni goreng. My favourite!
Agar-agar milo. Super sedap!
Ada jugak fried mihun, lempeng pisang, cakes but tak sempat nak snap semua. One more thing that i want to highlight is that we had good coffee made by Nescafe Dolce Gusto coffee maker that we had there. Memang impian coffee lover to have this machine at home. You can have a good coffee ala Starbucks at your own convenience. You can choose either Mocha, Cappucino, Latte or Espresso. The coffee is really good, creamy & foamy, just like those expensive ones. The machine cost about RM300 (not sure of the price) and you also have to buy the capsule (coffee & milk) that cost you RM27 per box of 8 (means you can have 8 cups of coffee). My husband & i actually thought about buying it but rasa macam tak perlu pun ada, dah la capsule die mahal. Anyway, i think it is a good buy if you love coffee and always spend your money to buy good coffee outside (particularly at Starbucks or Coffee Beans). I insert some photos of the machine for your reference. Anyway, i bukan promote or jual this machine ya..just sincerely to share with you all.

Dolce Gusto coffee maker. Makes good coffee  at home!

The behind box contain capsules. 8 capsules for 8  cups of coffee.  I bought Latte Macchiato

Ok dear, that is all. Hungry already? Me...i am craving for coffee right now! Haihhh...

Rendang Ayam On Breezy Sunday

Today me & family just lepak at home. A nice weather to laze at home...sejuk dingin, tak berlengas dok rumah. Since we have no open house invitation today, i decided to cook rendang ayam. It is like a compulsory thing for me cook rendang ayam every raya. Eats with nasi himpit & kelupis imported from Sarawak. Kelupis is pulut inside daun palas, quite similar to ketupat palas only that it is long shape instead of triangle. So we had a feeling-feeling raya with just us. Good food on breezy cool Sunday with my family is always nice.

Later on, we will go to Pizza Hut for dinner because i was salivating on Chunky Loaded Pizza. Adam was excited about eating pizza since yesterday. Hope it is as delicious as it looks!

This is my Sunday story....how was yours? Hope you had a wonderful time as well!

Masterchef..NOT!

I am not a great cook. Ok, i am not a cook..i seldom cook! That is why you won't find any cooking recipes or homecook pictures on my blog.Eventhough i love to eat i don't like to cook as much. I find cooking very tedious and too much hassle with all the preparations and tidy up all the mess after that is even worse. But......i do try to cook now and then simply because of my motherly/wifey instinct to provide homecook dish for my husband & children.  Usually i just cook up something simple and well-liked by all. I am not adventurous when come to coking, not the kind who cook up plenty of dishes or a complete course (appetizer, main dish, dessert). I respect those who capable of that..i envy you for your great effort!

I know most of you women especially married ones love to cook and try new dishes and recipes every now and then. I tried to be that woman as well but i gave up easily. Both my husband & son are fussy eater. They hardly accept or appreciate any creative dish. To make it even worse, my husband does not eat fish and avoid any seafood if possible. So i am left with chicken & eggs. My son still appreciates seafood so i do cook them for him occasionally. Family's favourite or i can safely claim, my best dishes are my nasi goreng, mi goreng, maggie goreng (not the instant ones ya!), spaghetti bolognese. See, only simple food, kacau gaul dah siap! hahaha..

Lately i have this cravings for Itallian food especially pasta. I only know how to cook bolognese. The cream ones i just use 'Prego in a can' and add some sliced hotdogs & mushrooms. After i ate Aglio Olio Spicy Seafood Spaghetti at Delicious cafe, i secretly wish i can cook like that. So recently i tried to cook it. Bought all the expensive herbs and also first time buying the expensive olive oil. Alas, my humble spicy seafood aglio olio menjadi but need a lil' bit improvement. The most important thing was that the whole family love it!

Lepas ni i want to dig more pasta recipes and try each one of them. Kalau tak, rugi olive oil and herbs yang masih banyak stock. Any good Itallian food recipes wanna share? Make sure it is simple and not too much hassle like most malay dishes! LOL!

From Delicious cafe. Very delicious!
From my kitchen. Picture not appetizing at all but it tastes good. Very spicy and very yummy!

Serai @ Empire Mall

Have you been to Serai restaurant at Empire Mall, Subang? If you haven't, i recommend you to dine there in the future. Been reading about it on blogs of how good their food is. I was there recently with my parents and sister. The food is as good it looks. I did not order their dishes, but i believe they are sure to be delicious as well.

Serai platter. Combination of their best dishes (i think). Which are lamb, honey squids, ayam goreng rempah and acar. This is mine, love it! My sis and her boyfriend were having this as well.

Beriani rice with lamb shank. My father's. He said it was good and the lamb was very tender.

Best of all..Berry Pavlova. Was my first time tasted pavlova and i was in dream! Read it somewhere that Serai serve the best pavlova in town.

The pasta was good as well. I ordered it for my son and he adores it, did not take any picture because he was seated quite far from 'photographer'. My son ate their macrons as well, compare to Harrod's, Serai's macrons are better, not too sweet.

Not forgetting, a picture of us..hahaha..*gedik*

My baby Dania only had her baby biscuit. Pity her!

One more thing to compliment was their service. I was impressed with the waiter who served us. I think he is of mid-east descendant and he was sweet enough to entertain Dania, or maybe he just love babies because everytime he passes Dania he would steal a pinch on her cheek. The food was served fast plus the waiters are all very attentive. I don't mind paying them 5% service charge. Anyway, the food there are not cheap as well but i think it was all worth it. Do try to dine there if you are anywhere near Subang.

Marmite

I am not sure about you, but for me i've known Marmite since i was small when my mother always put it inside my congee or as i would call it 'moi'. Marmite is a yeast extract, paste-like food spread. It has a unique strong taste, so you only need a few to add taste to your cooking.

Since my baby Dania can eat solid food, i always cook congee for her. Usually i just throw in carrot, spinach, pumpkin or blended anchovies to it. Then i remember that i use to love it so much whenever my mother adds marmite into my congee. So i bought 1 recently, for my baby to try it. It was quite expensive, the smallest bottle cost me almost RM10. Excitedly putting too much of it and spoil the whole congee, ended up too salty. Hahahaha..

Later on, I did a google about Marmite coz i was afraid if it is bad for baby. I was surprised to know that Marmite is a popular in UK. It was originate there and the Brits love to eat it with their toast and crackers. It was claimed to be addictive as well, due to its unique taste. In fact, Marmite also is high in folic acid and contains alot of essential vitamins. To know more, check here.

Marmite on toast. Tried it, not bad.

Now i have whole bottle of Marmite, takkan la makan dengan congee je kan? So i google some more on Marmite related recipe. The the whole list of recipes came out and some are interesting and yummylicious to eat. Check here and here .

Marmite honey chicken wings. Gonna try this..looks yummy right?
Marmite corn fitters. Interesting indeed!
Marmite is such a craze, there is FB page created for Marmite lovers, Official Marmite FB. And if you have any doubts about Marmite there is also FAQ page created for you. Gila kan? This is the most interesting page on Marmite, check out here.

Never expected there are so much craze about Marmite! Just like durian, Marmite has a strong taste, either you love it or hate it!

Jom makan kat Penang!

Agenda of recent Penang trip was all about food..makan..makan..makan! I think i have gained 3kg *gasps* I am bad at elaborating about what we ate, i just let the pictures do the talking ya!

We arrived Penang at 3pm, straight to Line Clear Nasi Kandar for our late lunch. Perut masing-masing dah mengaum kelaparan!

Tudiaaaa!!!! This is my sister's plate. Fat squid eggs & fried chicken. I was too hungry to snap mine. To my disappointment, my plate was a bit watery, and spoil my nasi kandar taste..damn you mamak!

Later, we walked to the famous Penang Road cendol for dessert.

Sorry babe, nak habis baru tringat nak amik gambar. It was delicious & refreshing to eat on hot & stuffy day!

After checked-in our rented serviced apartment at Golden View (superb apt, recommended for big family vacation), we went out for dinner at Tari Cafe. Initially Tari Cafe was famous for their burger because mamat burger tu menari sambil flipping the burgers, but now no more dancing mamat burger. We went there to eat their mi udang, also a famous dish there.

The prawn might not be that big, but the taste are marvelous! RM16 per plate, quite pricey for me.

Right after mi udang, we head over to Gurney Drive for hawker food *salivates*
This is the eating team that joined the food marathon in Penang.

Laksa & rojak
This is not an ordinary char koay teow ya! It is fried with duck's egg, yummy i tell you!! The taste still haunted me till today!

Bubur cha-cha..yummeeehhh!!!

End of day 1, come day 2 we had lunch at our favourite food stall located beside Cold Storage. When i live in Penang, me and family frequently visit this place to eat noodles at one of the stall mend by mamak. Sorry, no picture this time. I had mi goreng and also nasi campur because i tak tahan looking at the sambal tumis udang (besar).

After lunch we agreed to stop eating and go to Queensbay Mall to shop or window shopping were more like it. Well, you think i stop eating? No baby, after window shopping me, sis and hubby lepak at Coffee Bean and we had these.

While my husband ordering drinks, he saw this Red Velvet cake and instantly thought of me (who loves eating them) and bought 2 slices. I ofcourse la bersinar-sinar mata tengok cake tu!

Blueberry cheesecake for my sister

Husband & sis busy om nom nom

Look at my fat face, so proud to have eaten so much!

Later that night..we head over to makan sup at Sup Hameed. They serve varieties of soups, from sup ayam to sup torpedo (cow's testicles)

I had sup lidah (cow's tongue). Verry good! Those who doesn't eats this, your loss baby! They provides you bread to eat with the soup.

Day 3, is checked-out day. We decided to had lunch outside of Penang Island. We went to Din Ikan Bakar at Kepala Batas for their famous seafood bakar. The place was full of people.Wide range of food, rambang mata nak pilih.

*All of the pictures above not mine, coz we did not take any pictures of dishes, too caught up! Pictures belong here*

These 2 are the only pictures taken. Actually we ordered lot more than this. 100% satifaction! Recommended  place to eat if you adore this kind of food. Cheap as well, total bill was RM250+ for 12 people..not bad right?

On the way back home, half of the group went to Swensen for dessert. Me and family were full so we just went straight home for 5 hrs drive to Selangor.

What a gastronomical vacation! I am fasting now, while posting this..so you can imagine how many time i salivates whenever i look at the pictures.
